Nigeria is the most populous country in the whole of Africa and hence it has a large number of people in the armed forces as well. Nigeria has often been involved with the United Nations in keeping peace keeping forces in other parts of Africa which may be under civil war, violence or strife. Whether it was the Civil war in Congo or the internal strife in Sierra Leone or even to reduce the violence in Sudan, Liberia and the Ivory Coast, the military in Nigeria was posted there. The total strength of the armed forces in Nigeria is about 1 lakh twenty thousand. The armed forces consist of the Army, the Air force and the Navy.

The Nigerian Army: The Army recruits maximum number of the people from among the three disciplines. The Army recruits almost one lakh people. There are two divisions in the Army that is the armoured division and the composite division that recruit people.

The Army can be used to maintain peace and calm in regions as the peace keeping forces as had been demonstrated through out Africa but can also attack if required. A life in the Army requires people with high discipline who are made into dignified officers for the rest of their lives. The officers of the Army are trained in battalions as well as fast attacks.

The Nigerian Navy: The Nigerians are trained in Navy as well as the western coast lies in the Gulf of Guinea. The Navy has about seven thousand officials associated with it and there are still opportunities for people to join.

The Nigerian Air force: The Air force of Nigeria has about nine thousand officers right now. The Air force too provides great opportunities to people.
